What a Death Doula Sees: Wilka Roig on Mortality, Transition & Living Fully
Wilka Roig brings extraordinary depth to the conversation around death, transition, and the art of living well. As a transpersonal psychologist, death doula, grief counsellor, dream worker, ordained minister and educator, Wilka offers an expansive and deeply human understanding of the end-of-life journey.
In this episode, we explore the emerging role of the death doula, why Western culture struggles with mortality, and how preparing for death fundamentally enriches life. Wilka shares her lived experience supporting people through the dying process, and invites us to broaden our perspective on what it means to meet transition—emotional, psychological, and spiritual—with grace.
We also discuss how beliefs shape our relationship with death, the intelligence of dreams and altered states, and how traditions such as Curanderismo and Tibetan Buddhism can illuminate the path. Wilka offers a compassionate, integrative view of death work, grief, and what it means to live consciously in the face of impermanence.
In this episode, we explore:
• What a death doula actually does and why this role is rising worldwide
• How Western society became disconnected from death
• How conscious preparation for dying enriches life and relationships
• The emotional and spiritual dimensions of the death transition
• The role of belief systems, existential attitude and worldview
• How grief can be navigated wisely and with presence
• Dreams, altered states, and intuitive knowing at end of life
• Integrating Curanderismo, Tibetan Buddhism and transpersonal psychology
• How to support yourself or others in times of major transition
